This Week: Vacheron Constantin, Damasko, Omega, Laco and Oris!

2019/05/18 by Dale Vito

Hi guys!

In the past few weeks I took on a few major projects such as updating our Omega and Breitling entries, which was an awful lot of work. This week I took things a bit slower – but we have some great watches nonetheless!

Vacheron Constantin FiftySix

I started the week by updating our Vacheron Constantin database, mainly adding prices to those that didn’t have one yet. I also added a couple of new ones, including this FiftySix on bracelet. LINK!

Damask DH 3.0

Our intern Ruben started this week, and first on his list was Damasko. I really like these – especially this green-dialed DH3.0. LINK!

Omega Seamaster Diver 300M

Omega finally released its 2019 novelties – and they’re good. Of course there’s the Speedmaster, but how about this Seamaster 300m in Sedna? LINK!

Laco Rad-Aux LTD

Next for Ruben is another German watch brand: Laco. The first one we uploaded is this Rad-Aux ltd they did with Ablogtowatch. What do you think? LINK!

Oris Aquis Star Wars Stormtrooper

I missed this one when it was originally released, but it’s here now: the Aquis Stormp Trooper. This limited edition of 1300 pieces was created in 2018 for the Chinese (+Taiwanese and Hong Kong) market. LINK!

To the surprise of many, it turned out that the revamped Overseas collection that was introduced at SIHH 2016 was not yet fully complete: enter the Vacheron Constantin Overseas World Time!

The Vacheron Constantin Overseas World Time adds another complication to the Overseas collection, courtesy of its caliber 2460 WT. It is available with either blue, silver or brown (predominantly) dial. The stainless steel case measures 43mm across and features a see-through case back.

More Overseas right here.

Fresh in and already uploaded to our Database: the brand new Vacheron Constantin Métiers d’Art Elégance Sartoriale collection.

The Métiers d’Art Elégance Sartoriale, a collection of five, is introduced as a watchmaking tribute to sartorialism – the world of fine tailoring. A ‘subtle combination of artistic crafts’ in the words of Vacheron Constantin, I’d prefer ‘an acquired taste’. But then again, the craftsmanship involved in the dials is hard to argue with; guilloche, grand feu enamel, mother of pearl; it’s all there. Time is indicated through on off-center dial, a feat Vacheron Constantin achieved by placing a 20mm movement in a 40mm case.

Our database of Vacheron Constantin Métiers d’Art now has 67 watches listed.

Vacheron Constantin just introduced the latest member of its exclusive Métiers d’Art collection: the La Légende du Zodiaque Chinois (Legend of the Chinese Zodiac) Year of the Monkey.

The Legend of the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Monkey is available in either pink gold or platinum; both are limited to 12 pieces only. The former features a bronze-toned grand feu enamel dial, while on the latter the grand feu is done in cool blue.

Find our more details of the Vacheron Constantin Métiers d’Art La Légende du Zodiaque Chinois Year of the Monkey in platinum or pink gold on WatchBase.

Our archive of Métiers d’Art watches currently holds 58 watches and is going strong!

10000 watches!

Omega Seamaster 300m Spectre

Yeah guys – finally made it to 10.000!

It’s been some 8 months since the 3k update, so about 1.000 watches a month – that’s taking my holidays into account.

Few points worth noting;

  • Vacheron Constantin current catalogue is (nearly) complete.
  • Glashütte Original current catalogue is complete.
  • A. Lange & Söhne full catalogue is slowly progressing. I’m adding rare references every time I come across a picture.
  • Few smaller brands such as Defakto & Steinhart also have their full current catalogues online. These are including price lists. I will work on that for the others.
  • There are now almost 1.000 calibers in our database – 972.
  • I’m currently working on Zenith which is fun and should be done quite soon; then I’m planning on getting ready for auction season with a focus on vintage and next up SIHH and BaselWorld. Time flies.

That’s it for now – I’ll be in touch soon. And yes, the Spectre wristshot is completely random.

Crazy number of watches added..

Speake-Marin Magister Tourbillon
Speake-Marin Magister Tourbillon

In the last couple of days, I’ve again added a huge number of watches and movements to our database. Also, a few smaller (though great :) ) changes have been made by Alwin and Dion- both functional as well as some design thingamalingies.

With the intend of keeping things interesting, both for myself as well as for you, I have been trying to find some kind of middle road between a high volume of easy uploads and unusual and indie watches. The former are mostly ETA-based brands, whose watches are quickly uploaded in bulk as they use standard (or moderately altered) movements already in our database – Hamilton, Longines and Bell & Ross come to mind.

Others, like VacheronPatek, Lange, and Audemars Piguet, require custom movement uploads. It is however interesting to note that the info on these is readily available and very well sorted, hugely decreasing the time needed to sort out the information needed to fill all our fields. Patek and Vacheron take the reigns here, sorting their watches if desired by movement used, with full specs and info on all. While I haven’t really taken on Vacheron yet, our Patek database is starting to be quite something – although most are from the current collection.

Speake-Marin J-Class

Speake-Marin has been fun and I think only the Triad pieces need to be added from his current line-up. It’s a pity I can’t seem to locate pics of all his movements, but I applaud his open communication regarding the use of Vaucher movements. I’ve also begun to work on Lang & Heyne.. since we’re trying to add all, why not add a few unusual ones right at the start, right? Also, check out the Daytona page for a first taste of vintage.

Alwin and Dion have been adding a new function to the Calibers pages, which shows what we’re after – clear and open information with as much cross references as possible. It is now possible to view which calibers use a certain movement as a base – get a taste of it at the ETA 2824-2 page. While obviously a lot more movements need to be added to make it truly interesting, it is already a fun feature. They’ve also cleaned up the Brands and Calibers pages – the lay-out is much more clear than it was before.

Ok, back to work :)
