The Speedmaster is an undisputed icon and classic. It was first introduced in 1957 and it was the first wristwatch to have its tachymeter not on the dial, but engraved on the bezel. The watch would go through a few changes before reaching its more-or-less final form in 1963 - the watch has hardly changed in terms of design since. It gained worldwide fame when it was qualified by NASA for use in space, after which Omega added the 'Professional' moniker to the dial. For decades it would be one of the few items that was not designed specifically for use in outer space to accompany the astronauts on their missions. Its fame reached a zenith when it was worn during the 1969 moon landing, earning it the nickname 'Moonwatch'.
