TH20-01 description
The TAG Heuer Calibre TH20-01 is an integrated automatic chronograph movement developed and manufactured in Switzerland as the modern evolution of the manufacture Calibre Heuer 02. It retains the core architectural principles of its predecessor while incorporating technical updates aimed at improved efficiency, durability, and long-term chronometric stability.
The movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and provides a power reserve of approximately 80 hours when fully wound. Automatic winding is achieved via a bidirectional rotor system, revised to enhance winding efficiency across a wide range of wrist motion. Timekeeping regulation is handled through an updated escapement design, while the chronograph functions are controlled by a column wheel for precise actuation.
Chronograph engagement is managed by a vertical clutch system, allowing the chronograph seconds hand to start without visible stutter. The integrated construction places the chronograph mechanism directly within the movement architecture rather than as a modular addition, contributing to consistent power transmission and structural rigidity.
The TH20-01 drives a central chronograph seconds hand, along with a 30-minute chronograph counter and a 12-hour chronograph counter, in addition to continuous running seconds. A hacking seconds function is included to allow precise time setting.
Visually, the movement is characterised by an openworked oscillating weight bearing TAG Heuer branding, with brushed and skeletonised bridges visible through a sapphire crystal caseback where fitted. Finishing is industrial and functional in nature, consistent with contemporary manufacture chronograph movements.
The Calibre TH20-01 is used across modern TAG Heuer Carrera chronograph references, including the latest Carrera Glassbox Chronograph models, serving as the brand’s primary in-house automatic chronograph calibre.
