Nomos Glashütte 553 description
The NOMOS Ahoi Atlantic date [553] debuted in 2019. It is housed in a 40.3 mm stainless steel case with a screw-down crown, crown guards, and a sapphire crystal case back secured by six screws. Water resistance is rated at 200 meters (20 atm), positioning it as one of the most robust models in the NOMOS lineup. The Atlantic blue dial is paired with gold-plated hands featuring green Superluminova inlays, a neon orange seconds hand, and dark gray luminous hour markers for legibility in low light. A woven blue-black waterproof textile strap completes the design.
The watch is powered by the in-house automatic caliber DUW 5101, equipped with NOMOS’ swing system, patented date mechanism, and a bidirectional winding rotor. The movement measures 4.3 mm in height and 31 mm in diameter, offers a 42-hour power reserve, and is adjusted in six positions. Decorations include Glashütte ribbing, perlage, and sunburst finishing.
Earlier generations of NOMOS date watches, including initial iterations of the Ahoi line, were powered by the Zeta caliber. The transition to the DUW 5101 represents the integration of NOMOS’ own escapement technology and refinements in construction, underscoring the brand’s shift toward greater in-house independence.
