LÖBNER traces its origins to Berlin in 1862, where Franz Ludwig Löbner built a reputation for mechanical accuracy with groundbreaking instruments such as Tertienzähler (hundredth-of-a-second stopwatches), giant 1/1000-second chronoscopes, and racetrack timing systems used at prestigious events like the 1936 Berlin Olympics. These innovations established LÖBNER as a leader in precision ... timekeeping for military, scientific, and sporting applications—until its disappearance in the mid-20th century.

The brand was resurrected in October 2023 by Munich entrepreneur Matthias Düwel, under the umbrella of his Jandorf Holding—a company he founded to revive historic German brands. LÖBNER became one of the first watchmakers under Jandorf’s stewardship, with Düwel working closely alongside Emmanuel Dietrich, a designer with a strong avant-garde pedigree known for his bold reimagining of heritage design. Under their leadership, LÖBNER is positioned as a modern German horological independent that does not merely replicate the past, but channels its functions and ethos into forward-looking craftsmanship.

Rather than issuing throwback designs, the relaunched LÖBNER line—exemplified by models like the Steelracer, Rocketman, and the three-hand Sledge—uses historical cues like eccentrically placed dials, bold pushers, and the patented crown-protector “Sledge” slider to reinforce its legacy in short-time measurement. The design reflects Berlin’s Bauhaus-inspired aesthetic, with restrained German-language typography and industrial surfaces, while each watch is powered by Swiss-made movements (from La Joux-Perret) that are customized, assembled, and regulated in Germany.

Built with exclusivity in mind, LÖBNER produces just 200–300 pieces annually, with retail prices ranging from €8,000 to €14,000. Initial distribution has been focused via Bucherer boutiques, with planned expansion into Asia and broader European markets. Under the guidance of Jandorf Holding and its founders, LÖBNER positions itself as a high-end German independent that merges rare chronometric heritage with a coherent, uncompromising design vision—offering timepieces that embody over 160 years of physical ingenuity and technical excellence.
