82915 description
The IWC-manufactured 82915 caliber is an advanced automatic movement featuring a flying minute tourbillon, meticulously designed to withstand extreme shocks using IWC’s patented SPRIN-g PROTECT® shock absorber system. First introduced in 2021, this innovative mechanism incorporates a cantilever spring crafted from bulk metallic glass (BMG), renowned for its exceptional elasticity due to its amorphous atomic structure. The spring's unique geometry, recalculated specifically for this tourbillon movement using advanced simulations, ensures efficient distribution and absorption of shock forces, enabling the movement to survive accelerations exceeding 10,000 g.
To enhance the shock absorber’s effectiveness, the 82915 caliber’s plates, bridges, and rotor are extensively skeletonized, significantly reducing the overall mass. The flying minute tourbillon itself consists of just 56 components and weighs a mere 0.663 grams, prominently displayed at the 6 o'clock position. The movement employs IWC’s efficient Pellaton winding system, incorporating wear-resistant ceramic components to reliably deliver an 80-hour power reserve.
