IWC IW3577-01 description

The 2025 Big Pilot’s Watch Shock Absorber Tourbillon Skeleton XPL IW3577-01 by IWC Schaffhausen integrates advanced horological engineering with specialized materials designed for enhanced durability. This watch incorporates the patented SPRIN-g PROTECT shock absorber system, first introduced in 2021, marking its first integration with a tourbillon movement. The system employs a cantilever spring that suspends and cushions the movement within the case, effectively minimizing potential damage from shocks.

At the heart of the watch is the IWC-manufactured caliber 82915, an automatic movement featuring a flying minute tourbillon. Extensive modifications were required to adapt the SPRIN-g PROTECT system to this movement, including recalculating and redesigning the spring structure using advanced simulations to accommodate the dimensions and weight of the tourbillon assembly. Through rigorous testing, the system demonstrated the ability to withstand accelerations exceeding 10,000 g, a performance attributable to the bulk metallic glass (BMG) spring. The amorphous atomic structure of BMG provides greater elasticity and shock resistance compared to conventional metallic materials.

To optimize the effectiveness of the shock absorber, the movement underwent extensive skeletonization, significantly reducing its mass. Skeletonization extends to plates, bridges, and rotor, and even includes the triangular-shaped hands coated with Super-LumiNova. The dial itself is minimalistic, represented by a black ring with a minute scale and the signature triangle positioned at 12 o'clock. The tourbillon, prominently visible at the 6 o'clock position, is composed of 56 parts and weighs merely 0.663 grams.

Additional movement features include the Pellaton automatic winding system, enhanced with ceramic components to reduce wear, delivering an 80-hour power reserve. The watch’s case and crown utilize Ceratanium, an advanced material developed by IWC, combining titanium’s lightweight properties with ceramic’s hardness and scratch resistance. Completing the watch is a black rubber strap featuring a technical pattern and secured by a Ceratanium pin buckle.
