Zenith 49.9500.3600/21.I001 description

The Zenith Defy Skyline Chronograph introduces a significant material update to the Skyline Chronograph line through the use of a ceramic case and matching ceramic bracelet, marking the first time this configuration has been applied to the model. While preserving the architectural design language and high-frequency chronograph movement that define the collection, this version places its emphasis on material execution and durability. The watch was introduced in 2024 under reference 49.9500.3600/21.I001.

The case measures 42 mm in diameter and is executed entirely in ceramic, including the integrated bracelet. Its sharply faceted octagonal mid-case is paired with a twelve-sided bezel, both finished with a combination of satin-brushed surfaces and polished bevels that accentuate the angular geometry. The bracelet follows the same integrated design as earlier Skyline Chronograph models and incorporates a quick-change system that allows tool-free strap replacement. Water resistance is rated to 100 metres.

The dial retains the Skyline Chronograph’s structured layout, featuring a star-patterned surface inspired by Zenith’s emblem. Three chronograph sub-dials are arranged in a tri-register configuration, displaying elapsed seconds, minutes, and hours. Applied hour markers and faceted hands are filled with Super-LumiNova to ensure legibility, while a date display is positioned at 4:30. The dial design balances visual depth with functional clarity, maintaining consistency with the broader Skyline Chronograph range.

Powering the watch is the El Primero 3600 manufacture calibre, an automatic integrated chronograph movement operating at a frequency of 5 Hz, or 36,000 vibrations per hour. The movement allows the central chronograph seconds hand to complete one full rotation every ten seconds, providing a direct visual indication of elapsed 1/10th-of-a-second intervals. The calibre delivers a power reserve of approximately 60 hours and incorporates a column wheel and horizontal clutch architecture.

The movement is visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, where the openworked oscillating weight features Zenith’s star motif. Finishing is contemporary and technical in character, with a combination of brushed surfaces and precise machining that reflect the movement’s high-frequency construction. The ceramic case and bracelet underscore the model’s focus on modern materials while maintaining the mechanical identity of the Defy Skyline Chronograph.
