Patek Philippe 995/133R description
The Patek Philippe Pocket Watch 995/133R is a unique piece created for the 2023 Patek Philippe exhibition. This pocket watch displays several 'rare handcrafts' techniques; wood marquetry and enameling. The back of this unique piece in wood marquetry gives center stage to the celebrated geiko Toshimana, of the Komaya okiya (house) in the Miyagawacho district of Kyoto. She is depicted here playing the shamisen (a traditional instrument with three plucked strings) in an ochaya or teahouse. To produce this picture remarkable for its delicacy and elegance the marquetry maker cut out and assembled 250 tiny veneer parts and 30 inlays, together spanning a palette of 42 species of wood in different colors, textures and veining.
