Louis Vuitton was founded in 1854 in Paris as a manufacturer of travel trunks and leather goods. Over time, the company expanded into ready-to-wear, accessories, jewellery, and other luxury segments. It forms part of the LVMH group.
The brand entered watchmaking in 2002 with the introduction of the Tambour collection. Characterised by a drum-shaped case construction and engraved caseband

lettering, the Tambour established a distinct design identity. Production was based in Switzerland from the outset.
In 2011, Louis Vuitton acquired the Geneva-based workshop La Fabrique du Temps, founded by Michel Navas and Enrico Barbasini. The acquisition marked the consolidation of movement development and high-complication watchmaking within the brand. La Fabrique du Temps became responsible for the design and manufacture of proprietary calibres as well as the development of complications including the Spin Time mechanism, tourbillons, minute repeaters, and automata.
Subsequent collections, including Escale and later iterations of the Tambour, incorporated both externally sourced and in-house movements. The LV 525 series powered various Spin Time models, while the LFT023 automatic micro-rotor calibre, introduced in 2023 with the redesigned Tambour, is manufactured in Geneva and certified with the Poinçon de Genève.
Louis Vuitton’s watch production encompasses serially produced mechanical models as well as limited high-complication pieces. Its horological activities are centred in Geneva through La Fabrique du Temps, within the broader structure of LVMH’s watch division.
