The Breitling AVI collection is the successor of the Aviator 8 of 2019, which in turn was a rename of the original 2018 Navitimer 8 collection.
The Breitling Navitimer 8 collection was introduced in 2018. Its name is a homage to the brand's Huit Aviation Department, which was set up in 1938 to produce cockpit instruments as well as classic pilot’s watches for civilian and military use. At the time, Willy Breitling chose the name “Huit”, the French word for “eight,” as a reference to the eight-day power reserve offered by its storied cockpit instruments. The design of the collection draws heavily on Breitling’s design DNA and the technical features of the first board clocks and pilot’s wristwatches as well as on the Huit Aviation Department’s commitment to quality. It was the first collection to be launched under Georges Kern.
The collection was renamed to Aviator 8 in February of 2019.
