AP 1150 description
Calibre 1150 is a hand-wound ultra-complicated mechanical movement developed by Audemars Piguet. It comprises 1,099 components and 81 jewels, operating at a frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour) with a stated power reserve of approximately 60 hours.
The movement integrates a grande sonnerie Supersonnerie, minute repeater, flying tourbillon, flyback chronograph, and split-seconds chronograph, alongside a perpetual calendar with large date and astronomical moon indications. Timekeeping is displayed via central hours and minutes.
Beyond its autonomous complications, Calibre 1150 incorporates a wide range of mechanised ergonomic and safety systems related to chiming, chronograph control, calendar correction, and energy management, including controlled-force chronograph reset, flyback functionality, chiming isolation during time-setting, barrel-depletion safety locks, and bidirectional correction mechanisms for the universal calendar. These systems are integrated within the movement architecture rather than relying on external modules.
The calibre measures 34.3 mm in diameter and 8.9 mm in thickness, reflecting the density required to accommodate its combined acoustic, chronograph, regulating, and calendar mechanisms. The Universal Calendar mechanism itself is housed separately within the caseback and is mechanically coupled to, but distinct from, the base movement.
