The Yacht-Master II is powered by Rolex calibre 4162, a self-winding mechanical chronograph movement developed and manufactured specifically for this model. Introduced in 2026 as the successor to calibre 4161, it was designed around a comprehensively reworked regatta countdown function, with a new programming mechanism that allows the countdown to be set exclusively via the lower pusher rather than through the bezel-based Ring Command system used previously. This revised architecture simplifies operation and makes the watch more intuitive to use in the demanding pre-start phase of a race.

Calibre 4162 is built as a chronograph movement with a column wheel and vertical clutch, allowing the countdown to start instantaneously and with high precision. Its regatta display uses an additional minute hand and the central seconds hand, both rotating counterclockwise so that the remaining countdown time is read more naturally toward zero. The movement also retains the Yacht-Master II’s programmable countdown with mechanical memory and on-the-fly synchronization, allowing the programmed duration to be stored and the display to be corrected quickly if the countdown is started early or late.

Beyond the redesigned countdown mechanism, calibre 4162 incorporates Rolex’s current movement technology, including the Chronergy escapement, a blue Parachrom hairspring with Rolex overcoil, a large balance with variable inertia regulated by four gold Microstella nuts, and Paraflex shock absorbers. It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and delivers a power reserve of approximately 72 hours via a bidirectional self-winding system with Perpetual rotor. Rolex also gave the calibre a more considered visual treatment, with bridges decorated with Rolex Côtes de Genève and a cut-out oscillating weight.
